Save mount files and source video together
A Kdenlive project contains your editing instructions, but does not replace the video and audio files used. So don't just move those sources after you import them. Proxy files can lighten the assembly; the final export uses the original sources. In an archive of a project, also save the corresponding files.

Privacy

The many mounting options require exercise. Save your source material, because the project file is not an independent video.

The project file does not automatically contain all videos and audio. Do not move source folders without restoring the links. Make a distinction between deleting something from the project and actually removing a file from disk. Save a reserve of the source files before removing unused media.

Our verdict
Kdenlive is a good choice if you want to mount multiple-track video and control image, sound and effects. Proxy files can make heavy material editing more workable. However, the assembly remains a project with references to source files. You have to keep that connection if you want to continue working later or move the project to another computer.
Review the program with a short project that looks like your real material, including audio and desired output. Make a distinction between being able to mount smoothly and having a properly exported file. For projects you want to reopen later, source media and project must be preserved together. That weighs more than how many effects you can add to a single assembly.
