Looking for an alternative to Amarok?Compare Strawberry Music Player, Quod Libet, MusicBee, Audacious.Compare alternativesAmarok is a music player from the KDE environment. You build a library out of your own audio files and use information about artists, albums and songs to find music. Dynamic playlists help you make selections from that collection.
The player is mainly intended for a permanent collection of music. You first invest time in identifying folders and checking tags. Online information and additional services are optional and dependent on their availability.

Our verdict
Amarok is a good candidate if you want to keep managing your own albums and like working with a library. The combination of search options and playlists helps especially with a collection that no longer fits in one single folder.
It is less useful if you listen almost exclusively via a streaming subscription. Start with some of your files and see if the format based on tags matches your collection. Incomplete metadata is not automatically good by another player. When you have that base in order, Amarok can become a fixed listening environment on your Linux computer.
