You can use GCompris when you let young children practice with mouse, keyboard, numbers, letters and logical thinking. It is also useful to alternate short practice moments. You don't get a replacement for personal explanations or an assessment of learning problems; you have to look beyond the result of a game.

Choose the language you want and try a few activities together. Start at an appropriate level and build up the difficulty quietly.

For a child, preferably use your own limited computer account. Do not enter unnecessary personal data in exercises or profile names. If you download extra language or other content, do it together in advance. For example, a child does not have to look for material outside the chosen activity during practice.

Not every activity matches every age. The programme complements explanations and guidance.

Not every activity has the same difficulty or requires the same reading skills. Therefore, check the assignment yourself before you expect to practice independently. A correct answer can also come from gambling. Let the child occasionally explain how it comes to the solution to see if the exercise is actually understood.

GCompris offers you a collection of educational activities around, among others, language, math and computer control. The variety is useful when you want to have a child practice directed without searching for other software for every subject. Choose on content and level: a large number of activities do not tell you what exercise is currently in line with what your child is learning.

The best choice is an activity that fits in with a concrete learning step. See if the child understands the command without just trying buttons. For initial reading, appropriate language and speech are important; for calculation, the level of exercise counts. Review progress in the conversation and approach of the child, not only to a game score.
