Editly uses Node.js and FFmpeg to combine clips, images, audio and titles. You can use the command line or programming interface for repeatable output.

Installation requires technical dependencies. It is not a ready-made visual editor for beginners.

A described video composition is especially useful when you want to repeat the same buildup often with other source files. Explicitly record duration, order and media. This allows you to build a result reproducible without manually editing a timeline.

Check the required Node and FFmpeg environment and pin versions for a production project. Test a short composition before you start a large processing. Changes in dependencies or effects may affect output and compatibility.

Version 0.15.0-rc.1 (Release candidate; no stable final release). This release candidate requires Node 18 and uses Fabric 6. Own Fabric layers may therefore need adjustment. Additional displacement and image post-treatment settings have been added and an error in combining audio tracks has been repaired. Test existing scripts before using this trial edition.

Our verdict

Editly is interesting when many videos have the same structure and only changes source material. First create one working example and record dependency versions. Check export for timing, resolution and audio. For a one-time editing that you want to cut on feel, a graphical timeline is usually faster to operate.
