A private tab mainly prevents the session from remaining in your local history; this does not automatically exclude your employer, network administrator and visited websites.

Who is it for?
You can use Edge for daily browsing and Microsoft-oriented workplaces. It also fits if you want to use the existing Windows browser with conscious settings. If your employer manages the browser, certain choices can be made. Keep business and personal accounts identifiable separately.
Getting started
At the first start, review the import, synchronization and homepage options. Turn off sidebar functions that you don't use for a quieter window.
Privacy
Tracking prevention has different levels with a different balance between blocking and operation. Synchronization and services such as Copilot have separate data streams. Check what you send to such functions, especially with the contents of open tabs. InPrivate does not make your visit invisible to websites or your network administrator.

What extra functions you see may depend on your account, region and the settings of your organization.
Please note
A stricter blocking level can disturb video players or login. Preferably reduce protection only where necessary. Enter extensions restricted access and check which profile is active before sharing files. An automatically opened work website doesn't mean that all your other tabs should also be synchronized business.

- The stable main version updates the layout of profiles, third-party login and password details.
- Websites can count less and less on the old unload event. This fits the transition to more reliable save and page management events.
- Support for Windows Information Protection and Microsoft Defender Application Guard is removed from Edge; this mainly affects organizations that use these features explicitly.

InPrivate now uses the same tracking prevention setting as your regular browser windows. This update is part of Edge 153's stable channel.
- The separate switch for strict tracking prevention in InPrivate disappears. Check your general tracking prevention setting if you had previously tightened it separately.
- The browser changes how local IP addresses are transmitted to automatic proxy configurations.
- Edge further builds up unload handling on websites. In version 153, the new standard behavior applies to 60% of page loads, unless a website explicitly sets permission.

Our verdict
Microsoft Edge is a useful choice when working on Windows with web apps, Microsoft accounts and regular websites. You get built-in tracking prevention and an environment with additional services. Choose which one of them you need. A browser that is already present deserves the same control over profiles, synchronization and extensions as a newly installed alternative.
The best reason to keep or choose Edge is that it connects with your actual web tasks. Check which additional services you use and what data is shared with them. You work with multiple accounts, give profiles identifiable names. Thus, the choice to open or share a document becomes a conscious action in the right environment.
