Looking for an alternative to KTurtle?Compare Scratch.Compare alternativesKTurtle uses TurtleScript to steer a turtle over a drawing surface. You immediately see what moves and turns commands do. Repetition and variables make it possible to build larger patterns.
The programming language is intended for teaching and can use localized assignments. It is not the same as Python or the programming language Logo in any other environment. The visible drawing results help especially in understanding order, angles and repetition.
Compare KTurtle with alternatives
For initial programming, the difference between blocks and text is important. Compare how to learn steps, repetition and variables, and whether you want to make a story or especially a geometric drawing. The same concepts can come back in both forms, but the controls are different.

Our verdict
KTurtle is a good starting point when you want to show that a program consists of precise steps. A wrong twist or repetition is immediately visible in the drawing. This allows you to investigate errors without first understanding a complicated development environment.
The knowledge of order, variables and loops is useful outside this app, but the commands themselves are not universal. Explain that difference when you switch to Python or another language later. Start with simple shapes and let one part change. For learning to think in steps, that limited, visible environment is an advantage.
