Looking for an alternative to HWMonitor?Compare HWiNFO, Libre Hardware Monitor, GPU-Z, CPU-Z.Compare alternativesHWMonitor collects the values that supported sensors make available in your computer. You will see CPU and GPU temperatures, clock frequencies, fan speeds and data from disks and batteries.
What values appear depends on your hardware and its support. A missing sensor doesn't say that the component doesn'T produce heat. The app helps track your behavior under load, but does not determine why a computer is stuck on its own.

A sensor measurement becomes meaningful when you know which component is measured. A processor temperature, a separate core and a sensor on the motherboard do not have to give the same value. Also check the load and ambient temperature before judging a number.
Use the measurements to recognize patterns, for example a fan that does not accelerate during load. A missing sensor does not automatically mean a malfunction: the program must be able to read the hardware concerned. Compare questionable values with the manufacturer's data.
Version and updates
Version 1.67. Released on 31-07-2026. Version 1.67 adds support for Corsair HX1000i, HX1200i and HX1500i and various NZXT Kraken models. Also the Radeon RX 9050 and the Crossbar clock of NVIDIA GPUs have been added.
Compare HWMonitor with alternatives
For hardware information you can opt for compact identification or a wide list of sensors. Compare which components are recognized and whether you want to log values. A displayed temperature depends on the sensor and does not in itself prove that a component is defective.
| Software | What can it do? | Platform and licence |
|---|---|---|
| HWMonitorYou are viewing this app | You look at temperatures, voltages and fan values in a compact hardware monitor. The available measurements depend on your hardware and sensors. | WindowsFree to use |
| HWiNFOView this alternative | You investigate hardware and many sensors in an extensive system tool. You can track values and use additional measurement functions depending on the edition. | WindowsFree for personal use |
| Libre Hardware MonitorView this alternative | You follow supported hardware measurements with an open source monitor. This is useful if you want to view sensors without a wide commercial diagnostic suite. | WindowsOpen source |
| GPU-ZView this alternative | You're viewing video card data and sensors from your GPU. You get more graphic detail information than in a general system summary. | WindowsFreeware |
| CPU-ZView this alternative | You read technical data from processor, motherboard and memory. This is especially useful for identification and control of configuration. | WindowsFreeware |

Version history
1.68
You can read out more sensor data, including PCI Express errors, NPU measurements on recent AMD processors and additional disk measurements.
- You can see counters for PCI Express errors in AMD and Intel gpu.
- At AMD Strix Point, Strix Halo and Kraken Point you get NPU consumption, clock speeds, TOPS per watt and memory throughput.
- Disk measurements are extended with IOPS, average waiting time and NVMe controller connection speed.
- The program remembers which devices and sensor groups you have folded in or out.
1.67
You can view data from more power supplies and water coolers.

powerMAX 1.00
You charge CPU and GPU heavily to examine cooling and stability of your PC.
Our verdict
HWMonitor is useful if you want to know what your computer does during a task. Compare values at rest with those during the same app, so you don't treat a loose spike as complete diagnosis.
Temperature, consumption and fan speed together tell more than one number. Check at a striking value which part and which sensor are included. Support for an older or very new computer may be lacking. Choose this app for observation; do not expect automatic repair or warranty that all measured values are passed through the hardware correctly.
