PerfMonitor 2 shows up to four processor events at once. The available counters depend on the processor model. In addition, the app can display temperature and power data.

The edition offered is older and includes support for Haswell-E and Windows 10. You should therefore check in advance whether your processor provides useful data. For a modern PC, a currently supported monitor is usually a more logical starting point.

Processor events help to investigate what a supported CPU does during a task. That is a different question than just how much percent of the processor is used. The meaning of a counter depends on the processor and the selected event.

This program has an older release basis. Therefore, check that your hardware is actually recognized before you draw any conclusions. Do not simply use results from different processor generations as directly comparable scores.

Compare PerfMonitor 2 with alternatives

If you want to understand processor activity, compare available counters, graphs and hardware support. Performance events say something different than just a temperature or total load rate. Use the same period and load when comparing measurements.

Our verdict

PerfMonitor 2 is especially valuable when working with supported older hardware and comparing specific processor counters. The graphs help you recognise changes during a fixed task.

Do not use the app as a general performance meter for every new processor. Missing or unexpected values may be associated with support. Capture which counter you measure and keep the test conditions equal. If you are only looking for the temperature of a recent PC, then a more topical tool fits that question better than this specialized older monitor.
