Libre Hardware Monitor reads sensor data from processors, video cards, motherboards and storage devices. You use that information to track behavior during normal or heavy use. The program only shows what the hardware and drivers make available.

A missing sensor doesn't automatically mean something's wrong. Also, names and measurement points may vary per motherboard. Therefore, use values in conjunction and do not compare random sensors as if they were measuring the same temperature.

Compare Libre Hardware Monitor with alternatives

For hardware information you can opt for compact identification or a wide list of sensors. Compare which components are recognized and whether you want to log values. A displayed temperature depends on the sensor and does not in itself prove that a component is defective.

Differences between Libre Hardware Monitor and HWMonitor, HWiNFO, GPU-Z, CPU-Z
SoftwareWhat can it do?Platform and licence
Libre Hardware MonitorYou are viewing this app You follow supported hardware measurements with an open source monitor. This is useful if you want to view sensors without a wide commercial diagnostic suite. WindowsOpen source
HWMonitorView this alternative You look at temperatures, voltages and fan values in a compact hardware monitor. The available measurements depend on your hardware and sensors. WindowsFree to use
HWiNFOView this alternative You investigate hardware and many sensors in an extensive system tool. You can track values and use additional measurement functions depending on the edition. WindowsFree for personal use
GPU-ZView this alternative You're viewing video card data and sensors from your GPU. You get more graphic detail information than in a general system summary. WindowsFreeware
CPU-ZView this alternative You read technical data from processor, motherboard and memory. This is especially useful for identification and control of configuration. WindowsFreeware

Who is it for?

You want to see how hot parts become or how fans and loads react during use.

Getting started

Download the official package and start the app. Use admin permissions only when required by a sensor.

Privacy

Sensor information is read locally. Share exports only if you want to disclose hardware data.

Good to know

Support depends on motherboard, components and drivers. The program is not a guarantee of full hardware diagnosis.

Please note

Wrongly interpreted sensors can cause unnecessary anxiety. Check which part and measuring point belong to a value.

Advantages

  • Many types of sensor data Open Source Convenient for comparison before and after a change

Things to consider

  • Not every sensor is supported Some data require admin permissions Measuring points differ per device

Our verdict

Libre Hardware Monitor is a useful tool when you want to follow a concrete change, such as temperatures after cleaning a computer or the fan response during a heavy task. You see multiple parts in the same environment and do not have to open a separate program for each sensor.

The interpretation remains important. Look at the course under similar conditions and not just one high outlier. An unknown or strangely appointed sensor deserves control before you draw any conclusions. A stable system does not require constant monitoring, but a short measurement can give a lot of clarity in case of error.
