Our verdict
NetBeans is a good candidate if you're looking for a complete development environment and especially work with supported project types. Error detection and refactoring are more useful when the environment understands your project properly than when you only open single files.
Therefore, first check the required Java version and construction settings. Import a small existing project and see if compile, run and debugging properly connect to your working method. For a quick text change, a lighter editor is often enough; for repeated development the integrated approach can give an overview.
