Get more from Xed
A traditional text editor is suitable for notes and files where content is more important than page formatting. Use clear indentation and check character encoding when exchanging files between systems. For source code, the implementing language or compiler remains responsible for its meaning.
Save a copy before changing an important configuration. A file that is stored correctly can still contain a wrong setting in its contents. Make minor changes and check the result in the app that uses the file.
Version and updates
The package version of Xed may vary per Linux distribution. Check the package in your software management: distributions can process repairs without using the same main version number as the developer. Do not mix packages from different distributions without checking the dependencies.
Compare Xed with alternatives
For text files, how to search counts, manages multiple documents and sets text encoding. For programming, syntax, project structure and debugging functions are included. A full development environment can be much more, but is also heavier than an editor for single files.

Our verdict
Xed is an appropriate choice if you want to edit plain text with more tools than a minimal notepad. In code or configuration check the indentation and character encoding. For project-wide error detection, an IDE remains more appropriate. The power is in fast opening, adjusting and clear storage.
