This helps with text files, log analysis, small scripts and configurations on Windows. It suits you if you want more control than a simple note editor. For full software development with building, debugging and project management, a more extensive development environment can fit better.

Create a copy before using search and replace on many files at once. Also check that you are working in the right tab.

Text files may contain passwords, tokens and personal data. Note what you share via screenshots or search results. Plug-ins have their own origin and function; only install what you need. Do not store sensitive configurations in a public or automatically shared folder.

You don't write Word documents with this. Incorrect adjustments to configuration files can disrupt the corresponding app.

A wide replacement can change many lines or files simultaneously. Make a backup and check the search range. Do not change encryption thoughtlessly, because other software can read the file differently. In addition, a file with the wrong extension cannot be used as expected.

Notepad++ is suitable if you want to edit plain text, configuration files or source code without the formatting of a word processor. You can keep multiple files open next to your work and perform targeted search and replacement actions. The program is mainly an editor: a colored script is not yet executed or checked for correct behavior.

Choose the editor for files whose contents should remain plain text. For a written letter or report, the task belongs to a word processor. When large-scale replacement is done, make a copy and check the result in the app that uses the file. This also allows you to assess the meaning of the change, not only whether the search term has been replaced.
