The built-in FTP and FTPS functions provide access to suitable servers. With plug-ins you can expand the app, but not every additional function is part of the default installation. Compare Total Commander with alternatives
With file managers, two panels, tabs and batch operations are often the reason to switch. Compare network access and archive functions. Set keyboard shortcuts and removal behavior knowingly, because another operation also makes a difference when copying and moving. For large copying tasks, a clear queue, error messages and checking of the copied content are useful. A copy tool takes over the transfer; a file manager also provides a wider working environment. Check if you want to move or copy before starting the task.

Who is it for?
You can benefit from sorting large amounts of files daily and using fixed keyboard operations. The extended interface is less necessary for occasionally opening folders.
Getting started
Download the 32- or 64-bit Windows version via the developer. Choose your language during installation and check the license conditions before using the program permanently.
Privacy
You can manage local files without an online account. For external connections, you have to choose a secure protocol; ordinary FTP transmits data without transportation encryption.
Good to know
After the evaluation period you need a license for permanent use. Extensions are also subject to the conditions of their own creators.
Please note
Folder synchronization can perform deletions and transfers. Check the comparison before continuing and first make a copy of data that you cannot miss.

Our verdict
Total Commander is especially interesting if file management is a recurring part of your work. The combination of comparison, shortcuts and extensions justifies the learning time and license.
Make the balancing based on your recurring work, for example comparing folders or changing names according to fixed rules. If you hardly use those functions, purchasing and learning time are less easily justified. Check a complicated line for copies and also look at suggested removals when synchronized. For intensive use, predictable actions are more important than the number of possible extensions you can add to the file manager.
