Choose it official stable package for your operating system. Start without additional workbenches and save both the original project and the desired export.

Your designs can stay local. Add-ons and macros add code to your environment; install them only if you trust the origin and need the function.

A model contains dependencies between operations. If you change early geometry, later operations may require further attention.

Open unknown project files only with an updated version. Make a copy of important designs before using another version or workbench on the same document.

FreeCAD is suitable for technical designs where size and reusability count. The learning curve is real, but a small, fully limited design gives a useful start.

The app is especially suitable for models where you want to change sizes and design steps later. That takes more preparation than just drawing a form. Start with a small sketch and assess what happens when a size changes. If the model remains predictable, you can build further. For a single free illustration, that technical structure is less decisive than for reusable parts with defined dimensions.
