LibreCAD works with lines, arches, layers and dimensions. You draw on a scale and can accurately position objects, which is a different method than free drawing in an image editor. The app is intended for two-dimensional CAD work and not for modelling a fully 3D object. DXF plays an important role in exchange, but always check that a receiver opens your drawing correctly. For a room layout or simple workpiece it helps to capture units and scales before adding details.

Our verdict

LibreCAD is a useful choice for delimited 2D drawing. It is especially strong when you want to work with sizes and layers and do not need 3D design functions.

Choose LibreCAD when the end result should be a two-dimensional technical drawing with verifiable sizes. Exporting a simple component on a scale helps to assess the whole route. Only seeing the right shape on the screen is insufficient if someone uses the output to create something. For spatial models or parametric operations other tools are required; these need not be missed in consciously delineated 2D work.
