The destination must offer the chosen route of connection. You don't need to take a new cloud storage service, but you do need to set up hostname, permissions and any SSH access. Removing at the source may also affect your destination depending on your settings.

Acrosync suits you when you have a NAS or server and want to use rsync without writing every transfer as command. You retain control over the destination and selected folders.
Pay extra attention to the direction of transfer and options that delete files. Start with a small test directory and check changes on both sides. If you need to be able to recover older file versions, you can also arrange retention or snapshots on the storage. Syncing only does not protect against every user error.
