WizFile focuses on recovering files through their name and properties. On NTFS drives, it uses information from the file system to build the index. You can then combine search terms and filters to find a file.

It's not a full content search engine for all your documents. If you only know a sentence from a text file, you need another search function. WizFile is especially useful when you know a part of the name, folder, date or size.

Compare WizFile with alternatives

Compare search engines on file names, file contents and the storage they index. A quick name searcher on NTFS does not automatically search the text in each document. In addition, pay attention to network stations, filters and the load of any index.

Our verdict

WizFile is a useful addition when you often know what a file is called, but not where it is. Filters by date and size help to bring a long result list back to something clear. This makes it especially suitable for large local collections.

Do not confuse it with searching in the contents of documents. For a forgotten filename you only know a text passage, a content index helps better. So use WizFile for the kind of question it is decorated on. If that matches how you search files, it can save a lot of browsing through folders.
