The usual search function works mainly with file names. You can refine searches with a folder, extension or other filters. For example, this makes it easier to find a PDF between files with similar names.

Find a file if you only know part of the name
Combine a recognizable word with the file extension or part of the folder. Then check the full location: a file of the same name can also be in a backup. Searching by name is the strong side of Everything. When searching for contents, do not automatically expect the same speed as when filtering the file index.
Compare Everything with alternatives
Compare search engines on file names, file contents and the storage they index. A quick name searcher on NTFS does not automatically search the text in each document. In addition, pay attention to network stations, filters and the load of any index.

Who is it for?
This is useful if you manage many downloads, photos, documents or project folders on Windows. It's especially suitable when you remember a part of the name. For content search in scanned documents, you first need text recognition and a suitable search method.
Getting started
Have the first index build up and try a part of a filename. Check the folder location before moving or deleting a result.
Privacy
Everything stores the index locally and states that it does not collect personal data. However, the index itself may contain sensitive names and paths. Therefore, secure your Windows account. Only enable optional server functions if you understand who can reach your files or filenames.
Good to know
Quick search by name is something other than searching all text in documents. Support and speed depend partly on the file system.
Please note
The usual quick indexation is linked to supported file systems; other locations may request a different indexation method. Moreover, a search result is not an advice to delete the file. For installed programs, use the removal function instead of removing separate folders.

- Searching by name does not automatically find words from every document content.

Everything is especially useful when you want to find a file by name between many folders. It builds an index of names and paths, which makes you look different from a complete document content check. That makes it a targeted addition to your file management. You need to know if you are looking for a file name, folder name or text in a file.
Choose Everything when you know about the name of a file, but not where it is stored. If you are looking for passages within documents, let that requirement weigh more than the speed of name search. Always view the full path before deleting or moving. Similar results can be both an up-to-date document and the only older copy saved.
