The 6.4 series improves, among other things, high resolution displays. For a switch from an older main series you consciously install the new set; settings and commands are then important parts to save with. The program is intended for personal data, not a complete Windows disk image.

Who is it for?

You want to decide which folders are saved and how a task deals with changes. It fits if you want more settings than one fixed copy button.

Getting started

Choose the 32- or 64-bit download, configure a limited task and check output and recovery options. Do not set the schedule until after.

Privacy

You choose destination, compression and any encryption. Also check connection security and certificate settings in network transport. Do not store access and task configuration exclusively on the computer from which you make the reserve.

Good to know

The app focuses on files and folders. The package date may differ from the date on which changes in the release history are recorded.

Please note

Synchronization can also process removals. Check with trial files what behavior you have set and whether older copies are retained at the intended location.

This update improves synchronization and log viewing.

The processing of security copies at synchronization has been modified. The log better recognizes character encoding and saves the last search string. Problems with empty folders and the display of file sizes in FTP cleanup have been resolved.

Our verdict

Personal Backup suits someone who wants to understand and manage their own file tasks properly. The flexibility is useful for fixed folders and different destinations, but requires more choices than a pre-set cloud service. Particular attention should be paid to handling changes and old copies.

Review one complete task including file recovery. Then save the settings together with your recovery data. If you want to be able to restore a non-starting Windows installation, you need a system recovery route in addition to this file-based approach.
