Pages combines word processing with page formatting capabilities. Pre-determine whether you want to write continuous text or place parts freely on a page. This choice affects how you add text later and how the document divides over multiple pages.
Check an exported Word file in the receiver app if precise formatting is important. Fonts, tables and complex parts may be different. Use PDF for a fixed read version and save the original document for further editing.
Version and updates
The versions for Mac, iPhone and iPad may differ. Check the available update in the App Store on the device you work on. The iCloud web version is updated as a service and does not have a separate installation package.
Compare Pages with alternatives
For a letter or report you need other functions than for a long manuscript. Compare styles, page numbering, images and exports. An editor that restricts distraction may be nice while writing, but does not have the same formatting capabilities as a complete word processor.

Our verdict
Pages is a logical choice if you write mainly on Apple devices and finish documents yourself. You can create a report or simple brochure without using an extensive publication package. The collaboration via iCloud can be pleasant within a small team.
The most important consideration is the exchange with others. If everyone expects exact Word formatting, check tables, fonts and page changes in the exported file. Use PDF when the receiver should read above all. In addition, save the original Pages document so you can continue editing later.
