Discord

Discord can be used for gaming groups, hobby communities and recurring informal consultations. It fits well when participants want to leave text at different times and sometimes want to talk at the same time. For formal document storage or a closed archive, you need to assess separately who gets access and how to store information.

Start with one trusted server. Customize notifications by channel and set up who you can send private messages.

Your messages and account usage run through Discord. Server history and administrators may have access to channels according to the set permissions. Do not assume that a private server is the same as a private archive. Check who you can send directly, which activity is visible and which bots you can access.

Public servers differ widely in moderation. Additional features may have been paid and you need an account.

A known name or avatar does not prove that a download or private message is reliable. Check invitations and login requests outside the chat when something is unexpected. Screenshots may show sensitive information. Turn off unnecessary reports before you broadcast.

Discord is especially suitable if you want a permanent place for conversations around a group, game or association. Text channels and speech conversations hold topics together without planning a separate meeting for each consultation. The quality of your experience depends heavily on the configuration of the server: too many channels and notifications can reduce coherence.

For a permanent group, a fixed channel layout can provide an overview; for occasional consultations the same structure may be unnecessary. Decide in advance who can read, write and place files. Start with few channels and appropriate notifications. The design and moderation often have more influence on usability than an extra bot or a comprehensive list of server functions.
