Work with layers and masks when you want to be able to edit an operation later. A mask lets you hide parts of a layer without immediately removing the original pixels. In addition to a final JPEG or PNG, save an editable project file if you expect any changes.
Note resolution, color profile and transparency when output is performed. A print file requires settings other than an image for a website. Large documents, many layers and heavy filters can also use a lot of memory and temporary disk space; only the file size says little about the load while working.

Version 27.10. Photoshop 27.10 adds access to the AI Assisted Editor in beta and brings Firefly tools closer to desktop operation. Individual availability and conditions of use apply to online generative functions.
Compare Adobe Photoshop with alternatives
Compare image editors on layers, selections, color management and the file formats you need. An app for quick corrections does not always have the same capabilities as an editor for complex compositions. Please check that existing work files with layers and effects are properly copied. For a panorama you need overlapping photocopiers and software that aligns and merges them. Compare control over projection and alignment with post editing in a full image editor. Moving topics and different exposures may require corrections, regardless of the chosen programme.

Our verdict
Photoshop is especially worthwhile if you want to go beyond cutting a photo or using a filter. The combination of selections, layers and masks helps with accurate corrections and composite images that you want to modify later.
For incidental basic operations, the program is extensive and relatively expensive. Therefore, determine which tools you really need. Work with copies, check color profiles when exporting and keep sufficient free disk space available. Review online and generative functions separately when working with confidential images.
