Signal strength is one part of Wi-Fi quality. Channel usage, distance, obstacles and the capabilities of your adapter also play along. Measure in multiple places if you examine a coverage problem and note where the laptop was.

A visible network name does not mean that you can or may connect. Use measurements for your own network or with permission. The actual throughput and stability during normal use are also relevant for a complete assessment.

Our verdict

WirelessMon is useful when comparing range in different places. Measure with the same adapter and at several times. A strong signal does not automatically mean high speed; failure and network load also play along. Use the measurement to examine placement, not as only evidence that the Internet connection is good.
