Rclone connects with various storage services and performs copy, synchronization and management tasks. You can use a cloud storage as your destination or move files between services. Additional features, such as encrypted remotes, require your own configuration.

The difference between copy and sync is important. Synchronize can delete files on the destination to match them to the source. That's not an automatic version backup. Use a test run and read the intended actions before performing a major task.

Rclone 1.75.1 updates Go and cryptographic components. Also errors in empty files have been corrected and problems resolved which could cause certain Proton Drive uploads to be corrupted unreadable or after repeating.

Rclone is especially useful when you want to reliably move or copy files between different storage services. You can record a recurring task and don't have to drag everything through web interfaces. This flexibility makes it suitable for users with multiple storage locations.

The name synchronization deserves attention. A mirror can also take over an incorrect removal. Therefore, choose knowingly between copying, synchronizing and a real version backup. Test with a small folder and read the dry run output. For simple daily backups, a guided app may be clearer; for targeted transfer and scripts Rclone offers many possibilities.
