Mountain Duck connects supported storage services to your computer and provides files on request and offline choices. Changes can be uploaded later in the background.

The app does not deliver a storage subscription. You need a server or supported cloud service and proper access.

A mounted cloud or server location looks like a regular folder, but remains dependent on connection and synchronization. Check that a file has been fully transferred before you expect to use it elsewhere. A locally visible file can wait for processing.

Be careful with large projects or apps that write many small temporary files. That can work differently than on an internal drive. Maintain important originals and recovery options, especially when multiple devices edit the same files.

Version and updates

Version 5.3.2 (Desktop edition; mentioned WebDAV improvements vary by platform). Released 25-08-2026. In integrated Windows mode, Mountain Duck can lock files on a WebDAV server and handle locked files read-only. Context menu options for local offline storage and removal have been added. Also errors surrounding WebDAV and Cryptomator connections have been corrected.

Compare Mountain Duck with alternatives

For file transfer to a server, compare protocols, key support and handling many files. A program that connects storage as a disk gives a different method than a loose transfer client. Check the authentication and supported storage service before switching.

Our verdict

Mountain Duck fits when you want to open external files in common desktop programs. Check the synchronization status before you quit or edit a file elsewhere. Large files and slow connections can cause waiting. Test how your app deals with conflicts; a visible folder does not mean that all content is already local.
