Looking for an alternative to Cyberduck?Compare WinSCP, Mountain Duck, Rclone.Compare alternativesCyberduck gives you access to SFTP, WebDAV, S3 and various cloud services. You work directly with the files at that provider without first synchronizing your entire storage. This is useful for a website, shared storage or an archive larger than your local drive. Connection profiles help you choose the settings of a service. You can open files in an external editor and return changes. Cyberduck is the file browser; the related Mountain Duck has a different role and is intended to make external storage as disk available.
Compare Cyberduck with alternatives
For file transfer to a server, compare protocols, key support and handling many files. A program that connects storage as a disk gives a different method than a loose transfer client. Check the authentication and supported storage service before switching.

| CyberduckYou are viewing this app | You open supported servers and cloud storage via a graphical transfer client. The service profiles and support for external storage are an important reason to choose this app. | Windows, macOSOpen source |
| WinSCPView this alternative | You exchange files with servers via SFTP and FTP in a Windows client with two-panel control. You can also automate transfers. | WindowsOpen source |
| Mountain DuckView this alternative | You connect supported server and cloud storage as a disk in your file manager. As a result, you work differently than in a separate upload and download interface. | Windows, macOSPaid |
| RcloneView this alternative | You copy, synchronize and connect many supported storage services via the command line. This gives automation possibilities, but requires careful configuration. | Windows, macOS, LinuxOpen source |

Who is it for?
You use Cyberduck when you regularly manage files with different providers. Especially on a Mac it is an accessible entry to SFTP and object storage.
Getting started
Download the version for Windows or macOS. Choose a connection profile and login to your storage service. Just give the access you need for your files.
Privacy
Your files go to the server or cloud service you connect yourself. Encrypted transport protects the connection; additional client encryption via Cryptomator has a different function and requires your own key management.
Good to know
The client does not replace the subscription with your storage provider. In case of large transfers, also check its storage and outgoing traffic costs.
Please note
Check your storage service fees and rights before transferring large amounts of data. A file transfer app does not automatically make cloud storage free or private.
Advantages
- You reach many server and cloud services from one window.
- You don't have to synchronize all the files locally first.
- You can use external editors.
Things to consider
- Each storage service has its own rights and institutions.
- Transfers may cause costs to your provider.
- A linked storage location is not the same as a local backup.

Our verdict
Cyberduck fits well when you use different types of external storage. The added value lies in the wide protocol selection, while remaining responsible for access rights, storage costs and backups.
Choose Cyberduck when you want to access different storage services or protocols within the same way of working. Check first if your destination and login method are supported appropriately. Upload and rename in a practice folder to show if the required permissions are correct. For constantly matching local folders, only remote file control is not enough. Also guard costs and rights in cloud storage, as a clear app doesn't change the terms of that destination.
