BWF MetaEdit can import, embed and export metadata and handle checksums for audio data. The app supports rules for consistent description of WAVE audio.
Changing metadata is a different task than mounting audio. Work on important recordings first on a copy.

Metadata helps to identify audio later and process it correctly. Decide which fields you fill in and how to record names and origins. Consistent data is more important than filling as many fields as possible.
Work on a copy when changing large numbers of files. Then check that audio and metadata are still readable correctly. A technical metadata check does not automatically assess whether the recorded content is part of the file.

Our verdict
WCF MetaEdit fits a sound archive in which origin and technical data must be carefully recorded. Set field usage before editing many files. Check the reports and save an original copy. This way you can later show what changed the description without confusing it with changes to the sound.
