AVI MetaEdit supports standard AVI and OpenDML and can validate and export descriptions. The tool focuses on technical archive processing.

It's not a converter or assembly program. A valid structure does not guarantee that the recording is complete.

For older video collections, the format can still be useful while the description is missing or unclear. Metadata makes such files easier to manage. First check which data you want to add and how other archive software reads out those fields.

Save the original before making changes. Adjusting metadata does not change the recording quality. For recoding or repairing image and sound you need a different method than just editing descriptive fields.

Our verdict

AVI MetaEdit is useful if you want to consistently describe existing AVI collections. Test the selected fields on a copy and view the report after processing. In addition, use a player to check image and sound. For ordinary video conversion, this specialized metadata mode adds little.
