Ashampoo Snap combines screen recording with an editor to explain your result. You can capture areas or windows and display images with text, arrows and other markings. The program also offers screen video capabilities.

The available recording forms differ from a normal print on Print Screen. Set keyboard shortcuts so they don't collide with other software. When sharing, account names, notifications and other data may remain visible. Therefore check the final image or video, even after you have protected parts.

A good screen image shows exactly the relevant part. Remove unnecessary environment and place markings so that the original operation remains readable. With instructions, a short set of clear images is often more understandable than one busy picture full of arrows.

Look for notifications, account names and information in open windows before sharing. The same applies to recordings for sound and other screens. If necessary, keep an unprocessed copy so that you can make other markings or a sharper cut later.

Our verdict

Snap can be useful if you usually have to explain screenshots. An arrow, cutout or text label often makes a problem easier to understand than an raw full screen. The combination of recording and editing can then save loose actions.

Use a test shot to assess whether the recording forms work well with your apps. Also look at export format and image sharpness. For incidental simple clippings, the built-in Windows tool is often sufficient. The added value of Snap is mainly in the production and completion of instructional images.
