Automatically acquired data is not always complete. Extra online storage for attachments can cost money.

Coupled files outside the Zotero storage are not taken via normal file synchronization. Do not put the active Zotero data folder directly into a general cloud synchronization folder: this may damage the database. Create an appropriate reserve and check quotes after major changes in your document.

Zotero is strong when you want to collect resources and quote them correctly later. You bring together bibliographic data, notes and attachments. The time savings are in consistent management from the beginning. Automatically retrieved metadata continues to need control: a wrong author or year is otherwise placed neatly but wrongly in your literature list.

Choose Zotero when you want to reuse resources more often and manage referrals consistently. Start with different source types from your own work and check the required citation style. Attention should also be paid to accessing PDF attachments on a second device. A well-built library saves work later; a large import without checking can bring back the same metadata error in many references.
