Omeka S

Omeka S is a web platform for heritage collections and other collections of digital objects. You describe items with reusable templates and linked data. From one installation you can create multiple sites, each with its own presentation.

Modules add functions for example import, map and linking collections. You install the software on a suitable web server. This gives you control over design and publication, but also responsibility for maintenance, access rights and back-ups.

A digital collection requires consistent metadata. Pre-arrange which fields you use and how to describe names, dates and rights. This makes searching, filtering and reuse more reliable than when each importer chooses his own method.

A personal installation also includes technical management: updates, backups and monitoring of extensions. Test changes first on a copy of the site. Please take into account access rights and publish only material that you may actually disclose.

Version and updates

Version 4.2.1 (Omeka S for own hosting). This version supports PHP 8.5. Errors have been corrected in escape of IIIF block titles, custom navigation links and search results that could fall outside the allowed sites. Also, checks around password confirmation and some management forms have been improved.
