VLC Skin Editor lets you place images, fonts and controls and import or export VLT skins. You can see different players' tats.

It's an older Java program. VLC skin support varies from platform to platform; the standard Mac interface does not use these skins.

A skin changes the operation and appearance of the suitable VLC interface. First work out a simple design with recognizable buttons. Check that playback, pause and navigate remain accessible at the intended window size.

Not every VLC version uses the same skin capabilities. Test the result in the version for which you are designing and save the source files of your skin. A modified appearance does not automatically add new playback or codec functions.

Version and updates

For VLC Skin Editor, check the version number of the release you are actually installing. The versions for Windows, Linux do not have to run the same.

Our verdict

The editor fits if you deliberately want to create a VLC skin for a supported desktop version. Start with an existing example and check all buttons and player tats. A nice still design can become unclear during playback. For only another color or theme, built-in options are sometimes sufficient.
