Snipaste combines screenshots with fixing images on your desktop. You select an area, make the recording and then leave the image above other windows. This is useful if you want to take over data or keep a reference image in view while working in another program.

You can include the recording of text, arrows and other markings. The color selector helps when you want to take over a color from the screen. Fixed images can be moved and adjusted in size, so that they do not cover the work underneath. The program is more than just a button to send a screenshot to the clipboard.

Snipaste has a free basic edition for personal use and paid Pro functions. Business use of the current series requires an appropriate license. Some additional features, such as certain OCR links, belong to Pro and can use external services. For Windows official portable packages are available; select the appropriate processor variant and unpack the archive completely.

Our verdict

Snipaste especially adds something with the possibility to keep a recording on your desktop. For comparing data or taking over an example, this is more convenient than always looking up an image window. Just make a screenshot once in a while, then the built-in cutting program can be enough. Use your images daily as a reference while working, then the pin function is a clear reason to try Snipaste. Check in advance if your use is covered by the free license.
