This is helpful for error messages, brief explanations and demonstrations in documentation. It is in line with an action which is understandable without long explanation. For a complete lesson video with sound, multiple sources and long recording time, a video recording program is usually more suitable.

First record a few seconds and try the export. Check legibility and file size before making a longer explanation.

A recording consists of multiple images; a sensitive window can only be visible one frame and still end up in export. Therefore, check the entire sequence. Also note mouse movements, notifications and input. Do not unintentionally save raw projects in a shared folder.

GIF has limitations in color and compression. For long shots, a video format is usually more suitable.

A GIF is not always the smallest output. If necessary, reduce the size, duration or frequency of images, but check that the action remains understandable. For certain video formats an additional encoder may be required. Save a project copy before deleting many frames permanently.

ScreenToGif is especially useful for short screen operations that you want to share as an animation. You can delete individual images after recording and adjust timing. That makes a compact demonstration possible. The choice for GIF does require consideration: the size has limited colors and can become unnecessarily large in long or large shots.

Choose a short, repeatable explanation in which a few steps should be visible. Just record the relevant area and remove waiting time. Look at the size of your exports. When small text becomes illegible or the action lasts long, a common video better suits the goal than always shrinking a GIF.
