QXGEdit

You edit MIDI SysEx settings for supported XG devices.

QXGedit provides a graphical editor for System Exclusive data from XG devices, such as certain Yamaha modules. You can prepare settings and use them via an appropriate MIDI connection.

This is not a universal editor for any synthesizer. The receiving equipment must understand the relevant XG assignments.

SysEx messages adjust settings that go beyond ordinary MIDI notes. Therefore, check that your device or software understands selected XG messages. A wrong target or channel can cause changes not to arrive or unpack unexpectedly.

Save a working setting before changing parameters. Also check if the device is permanently saving changes or using only for the current session. QXGEdit is a dedicated editor for supported equipment, not a general audio editor.

Version and updates

Version 1.0.2. Released on 02-06-2026. QXGedit 1.0.2 adds the used environment, such as xcb or Wayland, to the Qt version text and deletes a separate Wayland build option. The development base goes to Qt 6.11 or newer.

Getting started

Install the appropriate Linux package and select the MIDI port of your XG device. Save existing settings before sending new SysEx data.

Our verdict

QXGedit is especially useful if you have an XG module where you want to change parameters easily. Save the original settings before sending new data. Check MIDI port and device model. For any modern synthesizer, a model specific editor is usually a better fitting choice.
