QjackCtl

You set up the JACK audio server and manage audio connections on Linux.

QjackCtl is a graphic control for JACK. You choose server settings and connect audio ports via a connection window or patchbay.

JACK and an appropriate audio environment are needed. QjackCtl does not record itself and does not replace DAW.

JACK connects audio programs and devices within a chosen configuration. First check the correct audio device, sample frequency and buffer settings. A small buffer can give less delay, but also requires that the system completes processing in time.

Save a working configuration before routing extensively. Check signal paths step by step if you do not hear anything. QjackCtl provides server control; the connected programs and drivers also determine which connections are possible.

Getting started

Install the package of your Linux distribution and check which audio server is already active. Then choose device, sample frequency and buffer before making the first connection.

Audio can run between connected programs; check which source is connected to which destination.

QjackCtl fits if you are consciously working with JACK and want to route audio between apps. Start with one source and one destination. Check sample frequency and buffer before building up a larger schema. In a PipeWire environment you need to check which JACK compatibility is already present, so that you don't start a conflicting server.
