Firefox Relay sends messages from an alias to your own inbox. You manage aliases via a dashboard and can block unwanted reception. Free and paid plans differ in numbers and functions.

Phone masking is not available everywhere. Check that separately for the Netherlands.

Use different aliases for registrations that you want to separate. If an address receives unwanted messages, you can act more targeted without immediately changing your main address. Keep which alias belongs to which account.

For important accounts, you need to stay accessible for recovery messages. Therefore, do not delete or block an alias until you have changed the contact address at the respective service. A forwarded message remains as reliable or unreliable in content as the original sender.

Version and updates

You use Firefox Relay in your browser. For the web environment you do not need to update a separate installation package. Changes to the service may become available without installing a new version.

Our verdict

Relay is useful for registrations where you do not always want to give your permanent address. Make recognizable labels so you can find out where an alias was used later. Use it carefully with important accounts: you need to be able to continue receiving recovery messages. An alias does not prevent you from revealing yourself in the content of a message.
