Not every new camera model is immediately supported. The many settings require more exercise than a simple automatic photo correction.

Support differs by camera and RAW variant. Therefore, try your own files before switching completely. An operation that works well on one photo can make another shot too dark or unnatural. Check color space and export dimensions on the device or medium for which you publish.

darktable is suitable if you want to manage and develop RAW photos within a coherent photo mode. You combine a light table with non-destructive operation. This allows you to complete a series consistently without overwriting the original directly. The most important investment is learning how lighting, color and editing order work together.

The choice is particularly logical when you process RAW series more often and want to invest time in a fixed approach. For occasional cutting of a JPEG, the device is quickly more extensive than needed. Check your own camera files and an export before recording a complete archive. Take editing data with you in your backup, so that the finished versions remain reproducible.
