Filters first with a small set of tests
Create a filter on a recognizable sender or subject and see which messages are included before you have a large mailbox processed. Especially rules that move or delete deserve attention. Also check if you are using IMAP or POP: this also determines whether changes to the server work and where you need to save a backup copy of your mail.

Claws Mail fits well if you want to organize email mainly as a message stream. Folders and filters are central, giving recurring processing a clear place. For users who do not need an all-in-one collaboration environment, that focus can be pleasant.
The technical connection to your provider deserves attention. Test login, send and folder behavior before replacing an existing client. Add plug-ins only for features you miss and check their maintenance. If you are looking for a modern integrated calendar and team environment, another program is more obvious. For targeted mail processing, Claws Mail offers a clear own approach.
