You get more extensive audio processing and improvements to filters and controls.

Avidemux 2.8.1 expands audio processing, including dynamic compression, time stretching and channel allocation. Partial filters and operating components have also been improved. It remains an editor for targeted operations, not for extensive multitrack mounting.

Our verdict

Avidemux is especially useful for a defined task on one video file. You don't have to build an extensive timeline to save a fragment or change an output format. Copying mode can save time and quality, provided your file and cutting points are suitable for this.

The downside is that you need to understand something about codecs and containers. Changing an extension is not the same as converting a video. Therefore check a short output fragment for image, sound and synchronization before processing a long file. For creative installation with multiple sources, you should choose an editor built around a timeline.
