Xonotic is about moving, aiming and getting to know the arena. Weapons have different properties and often a second fire mode. You play deathmatch and Capture the Flag, as well as less common game forms. The game delivers cards and supports community content.

Start with bots to learn movement and weapons before choosing an online server. The experience varies greatly from server to server: rules of play, cards and level of players do not have to be the same. So look beyond the number of players when you're looking for a suitable match.

You don't have to install the official package with a traditional installer. Unpack it and start the execution for your system. The last numbered stable issue is older than many commercial games, but is still offered via the official download page. Do not use version older than 0.8.6 for online servers: it contains a known security problem that fixes this release.

Xonotic suits you if the game mechanism is more important than a long story campaign. You can spend a lot of time in movement, use of weapons and card knowledge without needing paid extensions. For a quiet introduction bots are a better starting point than directly a competitive server. Please check that you are using the secure current stable release and rate a server at more than just pressing.
