XnResize focuses on image dimensions, orientation and output names. You add files or a folder and set the desired size.

Shrink removes pixels; magnifying does not restore missing detail. Therefore always keep the original high resolution.

Choose size based on the target: a small image in a newsletter has different requirements than a photo for print. Maintain the aspect ratio to avoid distortion. A too small source file is not sharpened by saving it only larger.

Check a test for details and orientation before processing a large selection. Save your original photos separately. For example, you can later create a larger or otherwise compressed output without having to rely on an already reduced copy.

Our verdict

XnResize is useful if you especially want to share smaller files. First determine the required pixel size and then check the export quality. For colour corrections or multiple successive effects, XnConvert fits better. Keep your originals separate, so that a larger print will still be possible.
