Ventoy sets up a USB stick once with a boot menu. Then copy supported ISO and other image files to the stick as if they were ordinary files. So you don't have to rewrite the stick for any other Linux distribution. The menu lets you choose an image when starting. The app supports various BIOS and UEFI situations, but compatibility remains dependent on the computer's image and firmware. Secure Boot may require additional steps. For a simple stick with one installation file Rufus can be a clearer starting point.

Who is it for?

Ventoy is especially useful when you maintain multiple computers or want to bring different Linux and recovery environments. For one single installation it is less necessary.

Getting started

Download the package for the system on which you make the stick. Select the right USB drive, install Ventoy and then copy the desired images to the data partition.

Privacy

The image files remain on your own USB stick. A booted recovery environment can get access to local drives and networks; therefore, choose which images you use carefully.

Good to know

Being able to save an ISO on the USB stick does not mean that it can boot on any device. Firmware, Secure Boot and the selected image together determine compatibility.

Please note

Ventoy's first install can erase the selected disk. Check the disk name and capacity and remove other external drives temporarily if necessary.

This version improves Secure Boot and supports some Linux images.

There are solutions for booting certain UOS releases and an error in the disk writing logic. Support for some EulerOS editions has also been added.

Our verdict

Ventoy saves repeated work if you use multiple installation or repair images. It does require more attention to boot compatibility than a USB stick you make for one computer.

The added value grows when you maintain different computers and want to keep multiple images available. Clear file names help to make the right choice at startup. Check every required image on the target computer; only copying the file to the stick is not complete control. For one single installation, a directed written medium can be simpler. For repeated maintenance, the collection on one stick is attractive.
