TeXstudio is an editor for LaTeX source files. You write the document code yourself and get tools for commands, references and detecting errors. The PDF view helps you to see the source and the set result side by side.

The editor does not automatically deliver the entire TeX environment. For example, you need TeX Live, MikteX or MacTeX to compile. A report about a missing package can come from that installation and not from TeXstudio itself.
