Watch the same video with others. Syncplay keeps playing, pause and flush right between your media players.

Syncplay allows you to watch a video that anyone can access. You connect to the same server and room, after which the software maintains your media players' playing position. If you pause the movie or jump to another moment, then that change will also be performed with the other participants.

You use Syncplay next to a supported player, such as mpv, VLC 3, MPC-HC or MPC-BE. Through the text chat you discuss what you see. You can also use your own calling software for a microphone call. The video view remains with the media player; Syncplay controls the viewing together.

Each participant must have access to the video itself. The program does not send a movie file to your friends and does not give you access to paid streaming services. Therefore, agree in advance which file you are using, so that differences in assembly or playing time do not interfere with synchronization.

Who is it for?

You want to watch a movie, tutoring or your own video while you're at different locations. You are willing to set up a media player, server and room in advance.

Getting started

Install Syncplay and a supported media player. Choose the same server and room with the other participants. Select your player and video and check the ready status before you start.

Privacy

The server processes data needed for your room and playback status. You can run your own server if you want to manage it yourself. The video is not shared by Syncplay.

Good to know

Each participant must be able to access the video itself. You need separate software for a conversation.

Please note

Use the same video release and a supported player. Start Syncplay on Windows 11 as a regular user; running as an administrator may cause interface problems.

Our verdict

Syncplay solves a very concrete problem: watching together without always counting down or asking which second the other one is on. It is especially useful for your own video files. The preparation is the most important consideration: everyone needs a suitable player and the same content. So don't expect a streaming service, but an addition to the media player you already use.
