Sauerbraten

Cube 2: Sauerbraten combines a first-person shooter with a built-in card editor. You can play alone or online and work on the same environment in a joint editing session. That also makes the game interesting when you want to understand how an arena is built.

The emphasis is on classic deathmatch action and quick operation. Don't expect a modern story campaign or season pay subscription. To have fun online you need to find a server with a game form and level that suits you. The editor also requires some exercise before making a well-playable card.

The official 2020 Edition is still the offered stable series. This means that you have to take into account older distribution packages and less recent platform support. The play engine has open source code, but included cards and other files may be subject to their own terms of use. Free play does not automatically allow re-use of all game files in your own project.
