QuickLook adds a quick preview to Windows. Select a file in Explorer and press the space bar to view its contents. This is useful when you search between similar images, documents or media files and do not want to start a full program for each file.

Which files you can view depends on the built-in support and installed plug-ins. Moreover, a preview is not a full editor: to change a document you open it in the corresponding program. Check complicated documents there too if the precise layout is important.

QuickLook works in the background and responds to your file selection. Start with some file types that you frequently use. Add a plug-in when default support fails and check its origin. This way you keep the expansion clear and avoid unnecessary extra parts.

Getting started

Install QuickLook via the official project links and get the program started. Select a file in Explorer and press Spacebar. Then check that starting with Windows is desired.

Privacy

Previews use the files you select. Treat plug-ins as additional software with access to that content; install them only from a trusted project source.

Just for Windows. Not all formats work by default. Preview does not replace an editor

Our verdict

QuickLook adds a small but useful action to Explorer. Especially in a folder with many similar files, opening and closing programs will save you. Do not expect every complex document to be fully mimicked. Use it to quickly choose and open the final file in the real editor when you want to review layout, formulas or other details.
