Qalculate! is a calculator in which you can enter a full expression. You can count with ordinary numbers, but also with units, features and symbols. That's useful when you want to do more than just add or multiply each time.

For example, you can convert a distance, calculate a percentage or solve a comparison. The software also supports symbolic math, adjustable precision and graphs. In a technical calculation you can hold the formula and units together, instead of changing between separate conversion tables.

The assumptions used remain important. Check the selected units, notation and precision before taking over a result. In addition, foreign exchange calculations are carried out when exchange rates have been updated. This page follows the Qt desktop release; there is also a GTK interface and command line version.

Who is it for?

You make regular calculations for school, hobby or technique. You want to be able to enter formulas and units without using a full math package.

Getting started

Install the Qt release or unpack the official ZIP on Windows. Set your preferred notation and try a calculation with units. The Windows ZIP package stores the program data within the unpacked folder.

Privacy

You can do regular calculations locally. Refreshing online data, such as exchange rates, requires a network connection. Do not store sensitive calculations unnecessarily in shared files.

Good to know

The extensive possibilities require more knowledge than a simple calculator. Current currency calculations depend on updated price data.

Please note

Make sure you calculate with degrees or radians and that units and decimals are interpreted correctly. A valid formula may still contain an incorrect assumption.

Our verdict

Qalculate! is useful as soon as a standard calculator forces you to remember intermediate steps separately. Especially units and full expressions help to keep calculations readable. The program does not take control of your starting points: note what you enter and see if the outcome is logical in terms of order of magnitude. For study and technical hobby work it offers much without a heavy working environment.
