PrusaSlicer

With PrusaSlicer, convert a 3D model to print instructions and look at the layer by layer what your 3D printer will make.

Developer Prusa Research

Version 2.9.6 · Open source · Windows · macOS · Linux

PrusaSlicer prepares a 3D model for printing. You place the model on a virtual printbed and choose a profile for your printer, material and print quality. The program then calculates the layers and movements required. For a filament printer, this usually delivers G-code; it is not a program that allows you to draw a technical 3D model from scratch.

You can set the layer height, filling, supports and orientation of a model. These choices affect printing time, material usage and the result. The preview shows how the print is constructed. Especially check overhanging parts, the first layer and narrow parts before starting a long command.

In addition to Prusa printers, you can use supported profiles for other brands or set your own profile. A profile similar to your printer is not automatically suitable. Bed dimensions, extruder, temperature and start code must be right. Therefore, save the printer settings with which you get good results and change one part at a time in case of problems.

Who is it for?

You use a 3D printer and want to influence the preparation of your prints. PrusaSlicer is especially useful if you want to check settings and calculated layers before using material.

Getting started

Install the package for your system and walk through the configuration wizard for printer and material. For a small test model, check the layer preview before exporting the print instructions.

Privacy

You can prepare models locally. When you use online model services, profile updates or printer connections, connections are created with those services or devices. Note confidential designs when sharing files.

Good to know

Many settings require knowledge of your printer No full 3D modeller Improper profiles can give failed prints

Please note

Use a profile that fits your printer and material exactly. Wrong temperatures, dimensions or start code can cause a print to fail. A good preview does not replace a printer's own check.

Advantages

  • Extended layer preview Support and Fill Settings Profiles for different printers

Things to consider

Our verdict

PrusaSlicer is a good choice if you want to understand what happens between a 3D model and a successful print. The low preview is at least as valuable as the many institutions. First work with a suitable standard profile and only change something when you know what problem you are trying to solve. For a printer with a different firmware or material changer you need to look at the profile extra carefully. So you use the possibilities focused instead of changing each slider at once.
