PotPlayer is especially suitable when you want to set more than play and pause. The control over subtitles and output is useful in files that just don't work out well in a simple player. For example, you can modify the synchronization without editing the source file.
That freedom requires restraint. A random set of recommended Internet settings can cause new problems. Start with the default configuration and change one part at a time.
